What exactly is the City Sewing Room?

We are a community sewing center,  where everyone is invited to come in and use the 10 large worktables, 12 sewing machines including sergers, fabric and supplies. Drop in to sew whenever you need help on a project, want to learn to use a machine better or just share your love of sewing with others.

See the Classes section for times and prices - and then use our handy Schedule A Visit calendar to let us know when you’ll be stopping by!

We are also constantly searching for new ideas and projects, and are open to lots of suggestions – like the individual sewing instructions, Sip N Sew, and custom sewing. This is a little new for St. Louis, and though we’ve been here for a few years, we are growing and changing. We strive to always make things better - and your input helps us do just that!

Explain the  Drop-In classes again?

Unique to the area, the drop-in theory works in that we never know when we may need help in setting a sleeve, making a buttonhole or just want to sew with other stitchers.  In coming to the City Sewing Room, you will share the workspace with sewers of all levels and be able to pick up ideas and helpful hints from each other.  The staff will always be available to answer questions and guide you in your personal project.   As the name implies, you do not need to make an appointment to come in,  just show up whenever you feel the need to relax with a needle and thread and release those creative ideas you have.  you must be able to use a sewing machine to come for drop-ins.  $10/hour or 10 hours for $80.

Do I need to bring anything for classes?

When are the Sip 'N Sews?

What about parking?

Can boys come?

Do you do private lessons?

Only if you have a special project you are working on!  Otherwise we have all the machines, scissors, thread and bins and bins of remnant fabric to get you started, and some simple patterns and projects to start with.

Friday and Saturday evenings are available for your group.  Give us a call, or shoot us an e-mail to schedule!

We have a 18 car private lighted parking lot in the rear of the building and the entrance to the building is right off the parking lot.  Very secure.  2 blocks from Hwy 44 and Jamieson.

Of course! EVERYONE is welcome! Who doesn’t need to know how to mend clothes or create something new and exciting to wear?

We can do private lessons by appointment, but generally the Beginner lessons should work since we limit them to only 4 people. Sometimes you will be the only student in the class, sometimes there will be 2 or 3 other students.
